Pre-departure vaccinations for expat employees relocating from London
If you're an HR business partner, global mobility lead or compensation/benefits administrator managing expat relocations out of London — employees and families moving to Dubai, Lagos, Singapore, Mumbai, Houston, São Paulo, anywhere else — vaccinations are part of pre-departure prep. We've worked with City employers (banks, law firms, insurance, consultancies) and tech firms (scaleups, fintechs) supporting expat relocations.
City Of London Clinic operates from Barbican Pharmacy & Clinic, a GPhC-registered pharmacy and designated Yellow Fever Centre at 36 Goswell Road EC1M 7AA. All appointments are led by Asad Repon, a GPhC-registered Independent Prescriber.
Why expat vaccinations are different from business-trip vaccinations
Business-trip jabs cover a defined 2-4 week trip. Expat vaccinations need to cover years of in-country residence, deeper local exposure, more rural travel, possible kids in international schools, family visits across the region, and the inevitable regional weekend trips. The plan needs to reflect this:
- Full multi-dose courses completed (Rabies pre-exposure, Hep B, JE for Asia).
- Regional jabs (a Dubai-based employee will likely travel to Pakistan, India, East Africa; a Lagos-based one will travel across West Africa).
- Family coverage (partner, children).
- Ongoing booster planning.
Common expat destinations and typical plans
- Dubai/UAE — Hep A and B, Typhoid for regional travel, Tdap booster.
- Lagos/Nigeria — Yellow Fever (visa-required), Hep A and B, Typhoid, Rabies pre-exposure, Meningitis ACWY, malaria prophylaxis.
- Singapore — Hep A and B, Typhoid for regional travel, JE for rural Asia, MMR catch-up.
- Mumbai/India — Hep A and B, Typhoid, Rabies pre-exposure, JE if rural travel expected, cholera if outbreaks reported.
- Houston/USA — Tdap booster, MMR catch-up. Minimal additional travel risk.
- São Paulo/Brazil — Yellow Fever, Hep A and B, Typhoid, possibly Rabies for rural travel.
Each relocation gets a personalised plan based on the employee's existing record and likely regional patterns.
Family appointments
For relocating families, we book one slot per person and run them back-to-back. Children's records are reviewed against the UK childhood immunisation schedule first — often less is needed than parents expect, especially if children are up to date on routine school-age vaccinations. We discuss school-required immunisations for international schools in the destination country.
How HR mobility uses us
- Refer the employee 4-6 weeks before departure. A 10-minute call or form submission with destination, dates and family composition.
- We plan and schedule the course. Multi-dose courses (Rabies, Hep B, JE) require 21-30 days, so referrals are best made early.
- Employee + family attend appointments. Initial consultation + vaccinations, follow-up booster doses booked.
- Records sent to HR mobility for the relocation file. Compliant with global mobility documentation requirements.
Repeat visits during home leave
Once in-country, employees often return to London for home leave or family visits. We track their record — so a booster, a new destination-specific jab, or a child's catch-up dose is a quick refresh rather than a full new assessment.
